Store Locator Map in flash for your website

What is a Store locator map? Picture a pleasant image behind a suburb or state map with a little transparency to allow the image to just peek through. A set of icons showing stores and a couple of warehouses. Move the cursor over an icon and a snippet of descriptive but factual text appears beside the cursor in a callout. This is a Store locator map. A Store locator map can be used for many things; however their primary purpose is to advertise the location and specialty of a store.

If we are a Video outlet and have say 20 shopfronts in a city, the ability to show the shop nearest a potential customer would be a big plus.

If 3 or 4 of the stores specialise in certain genre of titles this would be worthwhile showing on our Store locator map.

There are 2 stores in the CBD. One is for general movies but the other specialises in the old silent movies and has a large list of stock. It is good to make this known to the buying public.

To do this you would use a map of the city, a database of titles and a flash locator map. When people load the Store locator map they will see the distribution of your shops.

The specialty shops would have a star beside them or be in a different color on the Store locator map. Move the cursor over the icon and a callout shows the address of the store and the number of titles in each genre as well as a short description of the shop with parking instructions.

When an icon is clicked a page is displayed showing an image of the store, a map, some featured movies and a list of the genre available. Click on a genre and a list of stock appears. Scroll down to the movie of choice - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - and click. Out with the plastic to pay and the movie will be delivered to your door within 30 minutes along with a pizza and a bottle of wine. I can live with that.

This level of automation is comparatively easy when you combine a database, a flash Store locator map and the internet. The trick to getting it right is to determine closely just what your clients want and deliver it in the simplest possible way.
